A path to positive change
We are reformulating Styrofoam™ Brand XPS to reduce global warming potential (GWP) and advance DuPont's 2030 Sustainability Goals.
It's only getting better
Low GWP Styrofoam™ Brand XPS offers the same thermal performance, moisture resistance, durability and ease-of-use you expect.
Styrofoam™ Brand XPS is ready to mingle
Perfect for modern open-joint cladding, rainscreens or any design where the external CI and drainage layer is visible.
EPS foam allows the intrusion of water over time.1 The closed-cell structure Styrofoam™ Brand XPS Insulation is the design choice for buildings that withstand the elements and the test of time.
Moisture
XPS structure absorbs significantly less water than EPS products
R-Value
XPS maintains R-value better than EPS when water is present1
Durability
Absorbed water can cause damage in freeze/thaw conditions

We know that sustainability is more than just how our products are produced. It’s also about how they perform. Without compromising on quality, durability or thermal performance, we're introducing new Styrofoam™ Brand XPS formulations that reduce global warming potential (GWP) and embodied carbon. We're delivering products that have been evaluated by third party with certifications that meet or exceed standards on both sustainability and performance.
GWP Reduction
Our history is rooted in innovation and Styrofoam™ Brand XPS is the industry leader – allowing us to deliver better, more-sustainable technology for modern building needs. The low GWP Styrofoam™ Brand XPS is another example of our long-term commitment to global sustainability and environmentally compliant building solutions.
DuPont™ Styrofoam™ Brand XPS Boardstock Insulation is transitioning to a low GWP grey color in Canada and HFC-regulated U.S. states starting January 1, 2021.
Above and beyond ensuring environmental compliance, we're continuing to advance our 2030 Sustainability Goals and invest in global efforts and technology innovations to help you design and build energy-efficient, resilient and durable structures in this rapidly changing world.
When you're all six sides of the building envelope, the Styrofoam™ Brand product family has long been the choice for solid, consistent performance and energy efficiency. The reduced and low GWP Styrofoam™ Brand XPS formulations maintain the high levels of performance you've come to expect from the Styrofoam™ Brand.
With the same thermal performance, moisture resistance, durability and ease of use, this reduced and low GWP Styrofoam™ Brand XPS Insulation – along with our complete building envelope solutions – delivers protection that's a sure fit for all six sides.
The reduced and low GWP Styrofoam™ Brand products are compliant in select U.S. states and across Canada where sold. Refer to the Styrofoam™ Brand XPS Code Reports ICC-ESR 2142 and ICC-ESR 4755 in the U.S or CCMC 11420-L, 12085-L, and 04888-L in Canada for details.
The new grey color of reduced and low GWP DuPont™ Styrofoam™ Brand XPS is perfect for modern open-joint cladding, rainscreens or any design that calls for exterior, continuous insulation.
When you need a dark reveal behind open-joint façade systems and rainscreen designs, the new grey Styrofoam™ Brand XPS has you covered. These rigid foam boards provide durable and highly efficient continuous insulation (CI) — preventing thermal bridging and adding great energy performance and sustainability to the structure.
Styrofoam™ Brand XPS resists stains, while other products can get unsightly dark stains. These stains can also be seen through the cladding on inadequately insulated wood and steel stud walls.
When you use new grey, reduced or low GWP Styrofoam™ Brand XPS, you will get aesthetics, performance and sustainability.
